This telegram was from Catriona Campbell. She was the third child of my mother’s uncle Donald Campbell and Aunt Janet. During the war, Catriona and Roddy (her brother) both served in the armed forces. (See Dressler’s book, 2007; the photo is taken from Chapter 8 of Dressler’s book).  

During the II World War, everyone was expected to ‘do their part’. As mentioned previously, my father was in the Royal Naval Reserve, while my mother worked at the Highlanders Institute in Glasgow, where they met. Anyone who has watched numerous BBC period dramas knows that wartime provides lots of opportunities for romance.
