The Tale of Morag begins wiith the family of Roderick and Sarah Campbell nee McKinnon, my mother’s grandparents. Roderick Campbell died the same year that my mother was born, in 1921; that is, 103 years ago (as of 2024)! Thus, my mother Rhoda was named after her grandfather. It was a tradition when one person died, to give the name to someone newly born. It was to signify continuance of family, life and tradition.
Before I enter into a dry description of ‘the facts’ of the family history in Part III, I will try liven things up. I present a semi-fictional account of the life of my great-grandmother, Morag MacKinnon (nee Campbell). I called this account, “The Tale of Morag”, and also a second version of Morag’s story, called “Strange Love”.
As mentioned in Part One, regarding the story of the “Eigg Massacre”, this is a method that I term ‘historical scenario – semi-fictional documentary’. This means it is based on primary sources, both written and oral, as well as secondary sources.
