Album: ATC Squadron

Album: Air Training Corps

ATC stands for ‘Air Training Corps’. I joined the ATC in the early 1960s. This is some 15 years after the end of the Second World War, but the Second World War was still very much alive in the minds of the British people.

I won’t go into a long description here, but reserve this for Volume V of “No Woman No Cry” (my mother’s ‘scrapbook’).

But, I will just mention briefly that my eldest brother, Sandy, was also in the ATC in Lancashire – I think this was in connection with the Isis school, but I can’t find any documentation showing this.

Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Medal

When I was in the ATC, I was able to earn bronze, silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh medals. We were invited to Buckingham Palace to receive the gold medal and certificate. I think the photo was taken in the Mall, London.
