This post discusses a holiday we had at West Ferry back in 1953. As mentioned elsewhere here, my family lived in Dunoon, Argyll around 1940-1943. There are only a few photos and documents from this period; some are the various telegrams, testimonials, and other documents, such as National ID cards.
The photo album of my mother includes some photos from the Holy Loch. Amongst these is a photo of my two eldest brothers. I had assumed that this photo was taken when they were living in Dunoon, but my brothers seem to be too old for this to be the case.
On further investigation, I remember we had a holiday in 1953 in West Ferry, which faces Dumbarton Castle over the Clyde. The Holy Loch is only a few miles away, so this perhaps explains this photo. My father had perhaps driven his car to his old place of work in the Holy Loch during the holiday.
In 1953, Sandy was 11 years old, and Stuart was nine. This seems to correspond with the photo, and my mother has also written a note, “Holy Loch, 1953” on the back of the photo.
